BEVIS: BEgränsat buller Vid Införande av ett nytt luftfartsSystem

The BEVIS project is a continuation of the CSA KTH APIS project, which was successfully completed at the beginning of 2025. The overall purpose is to develop methodologies that support the calculation and assessment of noise from drones, thereby facilitating the sustainable implementation of drones and other future air vehicle services. In particular, the integration of drone noise into an urban soundscape with existing ground traffic noise is addressed.

The 2-year multidisciplinary project is coordinated by Akustikdoktorn Sweden AB and is funded by Luftfartsportföljen at Trafikverket and by Akustikdoktorn and Aurskall jointly at a total of 4.2 MSEK. Four competent partners with complementary skills (KTH INDEK, KTH MWL, Akustikdoktorn Sweden, Aurskall Akustik) work together to develop prediction tools and assessment methodology and additionally evaluate scenarios for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) noise impact. For the latter, strong links are developed with the ongoing TRV BUS project.

The project objectives are:

  1. From studying carefully selected scenarios, contribute to that future UAM in Sweden can be covered by a well-justified and locally adapted regulatory framework regarding noise.
  2. Enable and carry out studies in which residential noise can be assessed and minimized through e.g., route selection; based on representative sound sources for existing and future vessel types considering terrain, topography, buildings, and weather effects.
  3. 3. Provide support for the establishment of flight routes for which noise emissions to noise-sensitive buildings and areas, such as schools, hospitals, and parks are minimized, and where visibility to UAVs is considered (clear line of sight).

The project is carried out in close consultation with intended users. A reference group is formed with representatives of regulatory authorities (G. Malaval (pending), EASA; M. Lindqvist, Naturvårdsverket), organisations with control over the airspace (M. Liljergren, Swedavia; G. Fylkner, Transportstyrelsen; U. Nordenfjäll (pending), SKR), operators and manufacturing companies (A. Broberg, Stockholm City; A. Sörensson, Östersunds Municipality; E. Wigren, Katla Aero AB ).
