Rälsmörjning: en effektiv åtgärd mot kurvskrik.

Noise from so-called curve squeals can be a significant problem for residents near rail curves as well as for train passengers and staff. On behalf of the Public Transport Administration, Akustikdoktorn has carried out experiments with the application of so-called friction modifiers on rails in three curves in the Neglinge depot along the Saltsjöbanan line. The aim was to evaluate whether such methods are effective in reducing noise from curve squeal in the depot and thus contribute to a decision basis for a possible procurement of flange lubrication systems and/or so-called Top of Rail (ToR) systems.

The result of the tests was that a significant reduction in noise levels from curve screeching could be noted after friction modifiers were applied to the inner rail. The maximum noise level LAF,max for the curve passage out of the depot, was reduced by 14 dBA.AF,max vid kurvpassagen ut ur depån reducerades med 14 dBA.

The upgrading of the Neglinge depot is described at the Transport Administration website: Neglinge depå anpassas för framtiden - Region Stockholm. Neglinge depå anpassas för framtiden – Region Stockholm
